How we deal with different votes by Browallia/Nukleus
Most of the time, people are extra ordinary good and put votes with no doubt where they should belong. The basic rule has been do NOT vote for groupmembers our yourself, else vote as you please. Rank 1 get 10 points, Rank 10 get 1 point. Simple isnt it?
This article will show some special cases are listed over the years.
I start off with the most complicated case that may occur. Maybe you even find it entertaining when we scratch the hair and amusing to read this… Luckily for us, we do have a voting frame work so know how votes should be placed and done consequently all through afaik.
Displaced votes are tricky, but they do occur. This is how we deal with special cases
type: intro name in a demo category
example:
best demo category
- 1: demo 1 blah blah
- 2: demo 2 blah blah
- 3: intro X holy shit wrong category!!
- 4: demo 3 blah blah
in this case , demo 3 will move upwards and fill the “invalid” hole into rank #3 and get points as it was situated there. Intro X is in the wrong cateogory, but appearantly this voter liked that product so we can not just ignore that. So, intro X will replace what ever was situade as #3 in the intro category and push the previous #3 down in the list. So if it was 10 alternatives already in intro category, the last will be squezed out.
If there was no submission in the intro category, then #3 intro X from the Demo category, will jump up to #1 in intro category. If it would have been a demo name in intro category instead as the example, then the vote would have been ignored because of the reasoning that a demo > intro . Unless, that demo category is empty or that there is gaps to fill where it could fit in. Complicated, right? Luckily this is kind of rare, non existig problem, but in case of…
type: Wrong fact in category
example:
musician name in graphician category
if musician has not made any graphics so its clearly a displacement, then that vote will be deleted and the other graphicians name in that category will “jump up” one step to fill that former gap.
type: send in many votes
example:
you voted in category best demo, intro and musician first time, then you forgot to also vote in category best graphician and also you filled in some more entries in demo this time. So a merge is done from your votes and demo will be replaced totally.
type: Multiple votes on same entry line.
example:
Some people just work as a duo, not-to-easy-to-seperate. One duett that appered this time was
hellfire + noname on a single line as best coder. They can not get same amount of points, so hellfire will get one more than noname here, because he was mentioned first. If maximum (here: 10) fields for best coder is already filled in, the 10th has to be squezed out due to this rule.
Trivia: I asked Noname/Haujobb about this phenomena that both of them got votes beeing seen as one unit. I thought it was because of the seminar-effect, where they have been presented demo stuff together this year. Noname had another explanation, that since 2010 the duo have released together and who-is-doing-what in releases seem to be difficult to seperate.
type: same branch calculated only one time
example:
this would be best illustrated with the category “best website/portal/bbs”.
from same voter, imagine this:
- versus web rank ranked 3rd (www.nukleus.nu/vs/)
- nukleus.nu ranked 7th (www.nukleus.nu)
This give only points for the 3rd rank and not adding points for 7th rank. Then, Versus page is a subpart of Nukleus web so no points there.
Another example would be in demo, for example mega demo, disk 1 and mega demos disk 3 will only be calculated one time for the demo name, and highest rank only will give points.
type: double vote
example:
1: aaa
2: bbb
3: aaa
4: ccc
you give 10 points to aaa here (#1) , 9 points to bbb (#2) and 8 points to ccc (#4). So basically, all points below a non valid choice (here double vote) are moving up one pin hole
type: fill a hole vote
example:
1: aaa
2: bbb
3:
4: ccc
in this case, #4 (and below) will jump up one step.
type: wrong name or unclear name
example: “winning demo of party xxxx year 2015”
This example has actually existed. As long as its specified with party and year like in this case, or in another way that we understand whats meant
type: interpretation of succession
this is done in two different ways, normally lowest number succession count
example: best game category
1: Turrican
Here we intereprete this as Turrican I. Turrican II was the common great hit but again, we set this as Turrican 1.
BUT, the exception for succession where highest number count is in the best party category..
example: best party (2018-2019)
1: Mekka & Symposium
Assume there was a M&S party in 2018 and 2019, and that 2019 was before voting deadline date. With no further information, we interpretate this as the latest year
Mekka & Symposium -> Mekka & Symposium 2019
And of course only votes on parties that have occured the interval of years are valid together with a public (official) note. So “my secrete basement party” will not make it to the charts, sorry.
type: Misspellings
example:
“dessert sleam“
if no other demo than “dessert dream” has come out with a more fitting spelling than this. This demo name will be interpretated as the classic The Gathering demo from 1993. If we have absolutly no clue (we do try) what is meant (yes Ghandy, I can read your handwriting) after checking possible matches in possible categories, we have to leave that entry without points. We would not delete it (i.e a removed entry would create a hole, so treatement for “fill a hole vote” would not be triggered).
Complicated?
Did the past had such complicated framework taking care of votes or did you simply deleated them? Well, maybe we will never know?
