vS#9:AGA and OCS entrise on the rise

AGA and OCS entries on the rise by Cefa/Nukleus

I made a quick excel spreadsheet over all the amiga entries 2018-2019.

It seemed that there were 31 AGA entries and 101 OCS/ECS entries in 2018 and 31 AGA and 59 OCS/ECS this year 2019.

Both years sees impressive rise in OCS/ECS entries.

I think that is because of nostalgia and the difficulty to find 060 cards for making those impressive AGA demos. It also seems to be that design is more important than trying to mimic PC effects.

My favorites OCS/ECS demos are

  • Eon by The Black Lotus
  • e255 by Bomb & Sanity & Dreamdealers
  • Beam Riders by Ghostown & Haujobb
  • The Fall by The Deadliners & Lemon

All these demos show a very nice design and impressive effects,
but these demos show that the design part has a higher priority.
Which is a good direction to go, I think because trying to do
impressive 3d effect is nice sometimes. But it very hard to do well on
the limited amiga hardware nobody wants to see a 3d effect in 5 fps.
I hope this trend continuous and we get more demo/intros next year.
And I hope we see more OCS and AGA entries with more design in them.
Maybe demos some more demos made for the stock A1200.

Here is some interesting stats.

AGA OCS/ECSTotal amiga releases (including music and graphics)
2018 31 101 307
2019 31 59 281
InvitationAsciiMusicGraphics Misc (Games wild…)
20181525915148
2019845776711

Counted the AGA and OCS/ECS entries in every party using the Demozoo website. I did not count the graphics entries nor the amiga music in this category. Because it was hard to know if the graphics entry was AGA or OCS so I only counted the demo and intro entries.
